This Butler Chair, made of laminated veneers, is by Danish industrial designer Rikke Frost.

“The design is based on basic, functional challenges I have observed in public spaces, regarding storage of outerwear, bags and other personal belongings,” Frost writes. “When seated in public spaces we all want to be in union with our belongings. Often there is no room to place your jacket or bags and they end up on the floor next to you, or they get squished between yourself and the chair.”
It’s fun to see how she mocked up and prototyped it:
It appears that the final version has done away with the screws joining the back, replacing them with what appear to be dowels glued into a pair of floating tenons:

The Butler Chair has been exhibited with the Danish Design Makers collective, but as far as I can tell it’s not in production, which is a shame.
