Mixed media artist Cassandra Jones uses images from stock photography agencies, eBay and public domain archives to construct this curious wallpaper. From afar, the pattern just looks like a bunch of symmetrical bursts, but up close it becomes shockingly clear that the patterns are made up of kicking, twirling, smiling…cheerleaders.
The wallpaper lures you in for inspection and as soon as your nose is against the wall, close enough to see what the patterns are made of, it’s too late… you look like a pervert. This simple work brilliantly leads the viewer into a scenario of ethical ambiguity.
