Your average ATV leaves quite the footprint, both in terms of emissions and the tracks left behind. With this in mind, Finnish startup 18 Wheels is developing a zero-emission ATV that leaves the ground as undisturbed as possible.

Their first prototype demonstrates serious outside-the-box thinking. Rather than having four wheels, it has 18 small ones, each driven by its own electric motor. Each wheel is mounted to a piece of sprung steel connected to the body; the primitive arrangement provides low-cost independent suspension to each wheel. It also means the vehicle can deal with extremely uneven terrain:
Satisfied with their testing results, the company’s next step is to develop a proper suspension for each wheel:
