For an issue of 2wice Magazine that focused on the collaborative works of dancer Merce Cunningham and sculptor Robert Rauschenberg, Pentagram Design firm worked with photos by Joachim Ladefoged. The issue shows Rauschenberg’s innovative costumes, one of which includes the unusual adornment of wearable tin cans.
In another magazine issue shown below, the design studio combined set design with costume design to visualize the implied motion of a dancer’s steps, hinting at movements that have come before and after.
J. Abbott Miller, a designer at Pentagram and one of the magazine’s editors, has prompted the innovative design solutions of these magazine issues as well as the choreography app Dot Dot Dot that is previewed in the video below.
