Scout Dunbar’s series titled ‘Formations’ explores the relationship between naturally occurring patterns and the desire for structure in art and life. Her circular prints reference petri dishes or tube-samples taken from rocks and contain patterns you may expect to find within such scientific accessories.
By combining the structured art process of printmaking, hand-illustrated elements and imagery related to nature Dunbar creates visually abstract works elegantly layered with concept. She explains that her art “examine[s] the relationship between the order we seek and the spontaneity that is inherent in nature.”
