Cooking Robots Can Replicate Your Recipes, Provide "Restaurant-as-a-Service"

If you know how to cook a good meal, a startup called Nala Robotics has an interesting proposition for you: “Teach” your recipe(s) to one of their AI- and machine-learning-equipped cooking robots, then use it to open your own ghost kitchen where the robot does all the work. The company claims their ‘bots can “cook infinite recipes replicated with exact precision anytime, anywhere,” and that their “Nala Marketplace Restaurant-as-a-Service platform enables any professional or at-home chef, entrepreneur or fast-food chain to easily open a proprietary, cloud-based kitchen in less than 24 hours.”

Sure, you’d need to hire a human to restock, clean up and be rude to customers, but the chef will never call in sick—and can work 24-7, whipping up pre-packaged foods at night that you could sell the next day to local shops and convenience stores. And the company reckons the ‘bot can produce 2,000 meals a day.

They’re also offering Pizzaiola, a robot specifically trained to make pizzas, burgers, salads, wings, fries and pastas. “Simply upload your pizza recipe into the Pizzaiola database and the robotic chef will make your pie instantly.”

The pizza ‘bot requires a 12×12 space to operate and can produce up to 50 pizzas an hour. Leasing the ‘bot starts at $7,000 a month, so there’s the math you’d start with.
