Mike Kelley camps outside of airports, taking fantastic photographs of airplanes taking off and landing.
Thousands of photos have been taken so far as part of his ambitious series, Airportraits. The photographer uses Photoshop to isolate each airplane and then combines them into beautifully-composed collages. He started the project two years ago, traveling around the globe. Weather was definitely a challenge in his voyage, such as in Tokyo, where not even a single usable photo was taken after days of work. The photographer believes that landing portraits are most difficult. Mike says, “I did take slight artistic liberty with the position of the aircraft, because in real life the planes follow a very specific glidepath to the touchdown point.” Check out some of his work below and find more on Instagram.
