The possibilities for 3D printing application are endless, and Lorna Bradshaw‘s ‘Replicants’ sculpture series is yet another intriguing take on the technology. These sculptures are a comparative study on replicating reality through 3D facial scans. The project consists of three mask-like sculptures, each of which was created using a different computer application, software, and printing method.
Bradshaw interfered with the softwares as little as possible, and the 3D printed results are unusual computer-generated reinterpretations of the human face manipulated into geometric shapes and textures. The recognizable features of the female face are warped and reshaped into haunting renderings of the physical identity through an imperfect digital filter.
