3D printing is catching on big time and these new full-color 3D print sculptures by Eric van Straaten are indicative of its potential.
Born in 1969 in Leiden, Straaten grew up in Haarlem, The Netherlands. The artist worked with traditional materials and sculpted by hand up until 2010. After learning about 3D art, he’s made the move to using industrial 3D-printing. Straaten recently updated his site with 17 brand new full-color 3D prints in the form of figurines. The details here are exquisite, to say the least with each piece carrying a palette that best suits its personality. “I aim for physical expressiveness in my sculptures while preserving a certain digital feel. It has been said that my sculptures contain a weirdly eroticized corporeality, although the models are completely virtual,” the artist writes, “Balancing on the edge of kitsch, the marzipan-like quality of the material resonates beautifully with the apparent innocence of the scenery.” Check out some of his new models below and find more on his website.
