Giant light installation looks remarkably like the aurora borealis

Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde has created a light installation that is nothing short of impressive. Using blue LED beams, Roosegaarde created a display that mimics the Northern Lights. They even appear to look like waves above the heads of viewers.

Roosegaarde created the installation in conjunction with the Netherlands’ water management board to raise awareness of the topography of the country — a large amount of the land is below sea level and is protected by a system of elaborate waterworks.

Intricate installations aren’t anything new for the artist, who has done previous projects like bringing a rainbow of light to Amsterdam Central Station or creating a bright path channelling Vincent Van Gogh and his piece Starry Night.
