Historically significant women depicted on handles of old paintbrushes

In what can only be described as a filmic plot twist, Rebecca Szeto uses handles of paintbrushes as canvases for portraits.

Inspired by different cultures, the artist depicts historically significant women on handles of old paint brushes. From a Chibok schoolgirl kidnapped by Boko Haram to the first woman to graduate with a degree in architecture from MIT, Szeto’s works explore the deep implications of each depiction.

Listen beautiful relax classics on our Youtube channel.

She writes, “I am interested in things that fall between the cracks of place and language. Rust, dead bees, beaten up paintbrushes and scrap materials from my immediate surroundings all become a starting point.”
