Home robots will soon teach each other your preferences. How they are developing this will surprise you!

As we near an age when man and machine meet, computer scientists and engineers are trying to find ways to simplify this transition. Tons of questions arise, like how do you deal with a confused robot? How do you keep on teaching it simple commands so that it remembers? If anything, can it teach itself? Turns out, it can!

WSU’s Professor of Artificial Intelligence, Matthew E. Taylor has been dabbling with this problem for a while and he’s nearly there. Recently, he taught a computer to teach other computers to play Ms. Pacman. Stressing that robots currently are “very dumb,” Taylor states, “Even the most advanced robots are easily confused. And when they get confused, they stop working.” The big ordeal now is figuring out how much teaching the computer should offer. After all, nobody likes a ‘know-it-all.’ Here’s to hoping my R2-D2 is ready by the time I graduate!
