Hyperrealistic 3D paintings of cute aquatic creatures

Keng Lye is a Singapore-based artist who brings aquatic creatures to life with his 3D acrylic paintings, which look so real they could easily pass as photographs. Inspired by the master of 3D art, Riusuke Fukahori, Lye follows in the Japanese artist’s footsteps while also adding something new to the table.

Using repurposed containers like buckets and bowls as his canvas, he paints little aquatic creatures like fish, turtles and octopuses within layers of resin to give the hyperrealistic 3D effect. Moreover, by experimenting with using painted eggshells and pebbles to make elements protrude from the ‘water’ surface, he has taken the illusion to a whole new level, blurring the lines between painting and sculpting.
