IKEA’s ideas are known to be one of the most innovative, original, and truly inspiring in the field of industrial design. In fact, this is exactly the reason why they have easily integrated their brand into millions of households worldwide. And now, aiming for not only imaginative but also beneficial design, they are pairing up with NASA to create a furniture line that can be used both on Earth and Mars.
A design team from IKEA will live in NASA’s MDRS Habitat for 3 days straight to figure out what designs they can come up. These designs should be able to answer specific issues in the current living situations across the globe such as cramped spaces and pollution.
According to IKEA Creative Leader Michael Nikolic, the purpose of the brainstorming is “about appreciating what we have on Earth: human beings, plants, clean water, and air. But also diversity and a sense of belonging – things that we take for granted on a daily basis.”
