Sophisticated architecture: Kloof 119A, a Cape Town family home by SAOTA with an inverted pyramid roof.

Here comes another outstanding architectural project by the team of SAOTA. This luxurious Cape Town-based family home is located below Lion’s Head. It provides breathtaking views towards the city as well as views of Table Mountain, Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, the mountains of the Boland and the wine lands in the distance. The architectural concept is based on the idea of taking in as much of the surroundings as possible. Kloof 119A’s inverted pyramid roof creates a clerestory window around the upper level allowing the building to capture views of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head. Furthermore, it provides views of the sky bringing the sun and moon into the home.

Built in a traditional Cape way, the house has a stone wall to the busy city street, revealing very little about its interior. One enters the house through a large front door, which sits between the house proper and the stone wall, into a small entrance lobby connected to a courtyard garden. Just a few steps take you up into the main living area with breathtaking views over the city. The house consists of three levels. The top level provides the strongest views. It includes most of the living spaces with a large open-plan kitchen, dining room, and lounge. The work and bedroom spaces are placed on the mid-level together with a garage, gym, cinema, and guest room on the lower level. Each level has its own set of gardens and courtyards. The sophisticated spaces were furnished using OKHA furniture. Below you can see a few images of this outstanding building. For more, please visit SAOTA’s website.
