Modern Decor Finds Inspired by This 1960s Pattern From Designmuseum Danmark

Set to reopen to the public on June 19th after a two-year long renovation (and a global pandemic), Copenhagen’s Designmuseum Danmark is introducing a new eight-exhibition lineup that you won’t want to miss. Among the new program is Powerful Patterns, an exhibit created in collaboration with Danish fashion designer, artist, and musician Henrik Vibskov. The exhibit celebrates the museum’s most spirited and colorful patterns, like Galleria (pictured above) – a delightfully curvy pattern created by textile designer Barbara Brown in the late 1960s. With its wavy world of rusty oranges, sandy neutrals, and dusty lavender touches, Galleria’s energizing op-art design has a retro modern look that continues to captivate viewers to this day. Read on for our modern decor finds inspired by this iconic print. For more Galleria-inspired design, visit the Design Milk Shop!

Sepia Tumbler by KINTO

KINTO’s best-selling Sepia glassware evokes the same retro nostalgia as Brown’s Galleria pattern. Not only does the tumbler’s amber tint align perfectly with Galleria’s rust-hued curves, it makes every tea, coffee, or juice a more cool and comforting experience – all while bringing color and visual interest to your tabletop. To get the full effect, we recommend completing your sepia set with KINTO’s matching mugs and teapots.

Wood Fired Tumbler 1 by Cloud 9 Clay

Fellow gradient devotees will adore the cosmic transition of warm hues on Cloud 9 Clay’s Wood Fired Tumbler. Wheel thrown and wood-fired in Cloud 9 Clay’s home base of Philly, the Wood Fired Tumbler has a ridged design that gives the cup a grippy feel and makes the hand-painted gradient all the more mesmerizing. The tumbler’s deep red to vibrant orange glaze is in keeping with Galleria’s warm color palette, and the gradient effect blurs the lines that define Galleria’s ebbing waves.

The Wavy Lamp by Wooj Design

The product of pandemic stress, Wooj founder Sean Kim made the Wavy Lamp. A wiggly, jellyfish inspired shape that brings a warm glow and a whole lot of whimsy to your space. We think the 3D-printed Wavy Lamp is a great way to bring Galleria’s sweeping curves and waves to life in a functional object. Wooj even makes different colors for the lamp base – from navy and fig, to mustard and terracotta (a perfect match for Galleria!).

Blish Rug by Carret Design

With its bold rust and red toned curves, Carret Design’s Blish Rug sings a similarly retro, 60s-70s tune as the Galleria pattern. The rug’s beige base color helps restore balance though, making it a piece that the color crazed and color-shy alike can appreciate. Even better, Carret Design rugs are made using Econyl – an innovative nylon material made from repurposed waste that would otherwise end up in a landfill or as pollution in our oceans – and still feels ultra-soft on your feet.
