The watercolor and ink drawings by Netherlands artist Renate Groenewoud show a sweetness while also being subtly haunting.
The exquisitely detailed and poignant paintings have a subdued color palette, often having an insight into the experience of childhood. Groenewoud works at a preschool and says one of her favorite things is talking with three year old children. At times, the captions to her paintings hint at a narrative, such as “I dream a lot…”, or “you only need the light when it’s burning low”, or “mom, we’re bored”.
