Striking Japanese drawings created from a single continuous stroke

Japanese illustrator and animator Kazuhiko Okushita is a master in ippitsugaki, a Japanese technique in which a drawing is created from one single, continuous stroke. His artwork is striking in its deceptive simplicity, whether it’s a still image or a short film. It is fun to look at each picture and trace the stroke from beginning to end.

Recently, Okushita has branched out to GIFs, which depict daily scenarios unravelling in one single line. Check out a time-lapse of a large mural recently created for an installation and be sure to follow his Tumblr for updates of his works.
