Sabek, Spanish based artist, recently visited Napier in New Zealand to paint a corrugated wall for Sea Walls, Artists for Oceans public art project.

Painting this wall Sabek is portraying overfishing, and how that affects the ocean and everything that inhabits it. Main character on this corrugated wall is the big blue whale, and Sabek painted it as the main character because he wanted to represent how it is vanishing, like everything around it. This piece aims to touch upon overfishing, but above all, how we are interacting with the environment; disrespectfully and abusively. This wall is portraying one tail of the blue whale, and a shadow of what it once was. There is still a lot to learn and value about the sea and oceans before it is too late, if it isn’t already…
