The Massive Minimalism of the Monolith by Nocs Studio

Sometimes the name says it all, as is the case with the singular size and design of the Monolith by Nocs Studio, a rectilinear wall of sound with a surprising detail influenced by car exhaust systems.

Proudly “designed, engineered & made in Sweden,” the handmade speaker comprises an array of three Danish-engineered ScanSpeak 3.5-inch full range drivers and two ScanSpeak 6-inch dual vented woofers in a unique three-over-two arrangement, all powered by a Class-D amplifier and encased within a blackened birch plywood cabinet.

Nocs Lab engineers drew inspiration from automotive exhaust systems, integrating a bespoke piezo vent design to ensure the Monolith would perform without distortion while deepening the depths of bass performance.

Par for the course, the Monolith is equipped for wireless connectivity offered via Bluetooth 5.0. Spotify Connect and Tidal Connect services are baked into the compatible app, with AirPlay 2 listed as in the works. For those seeking an enormous aural experience, up to 8 Monoliths can be connected to create an environment of shock and awe.

Nocs describes the finished design of the Monolith as “rustic and unassuming,” but it’s executed handsomely, with its substantial 21.5 x 15 x 7 inch dimensions, over 26-lbs heft, and honest sum of components delivering its own aesthetic austere appeal, one adaptable to spaces modern or otherwise.

The Monolith is available for pre-order for $1,200 and ships starting in the end of January. More information about ordering available here.
