It seems like every thrift store has at least a handful of paintings, some framed, some not, and some almost certainly paint-by-numbers. Most of us probably overlook these paintings, or possibly laugh at their kitsch quality. But Toronto-based artist David Irvine turns these retro works of “art” into something much more modern and eye-catching. Something you might be proud to hang in your living room.
Irvine adds pop culture characters to these thrifted creations, working on commission in a series he calls ‘Re-Directed.’ He also offers prints of the works, in case you don’t have the budget for a commissioned piece.
