Modular 3D paper sculptures that achieve impossible curves

These intricate 3D sculptures are made out of paper and glued together by English artist Richard Sweeney. It is remarkable that in the age of 3D printing and other technologies this artist uses only simple tools like a cutter and ruler to fold and fasten together his paper sculptures.

Inspired by organic shapes in nature, Sweeney creates complex multi-layered paper miracles. Some of his three-dimensional installations come to life, even without glue, using only pleated paper. The artist‘s work reminds us of delicate Japanese origami. Sweeney implements his minimalist hand-made approach utilising simple materials to explore seemingly impossible new forms.
